At ABZ Driving School, we understand that plans can change. This policy outlines the terms for cancelling or rescheduling driving lessons and driving test bookings. It is designed to be fair for both you, the pupil, and your instructor. By booking a lesson, you agree to the terms of this Cancellation Policy, which forms part of our overall Terms and Conditions.
1. Lesson Cancellation by the Pupil
We require sufficient notice if you need to cancel or rearrange a lesson so that your allocated time can be offered to another pupil.
1.1 Standard Lesson Cancellation (48-Hour Rule)
- A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule a standard driving lesson without incurring a charge .

1.2 Late Cancellation & No-Shows
- Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice: You will be charged the full lesson fee .
- Failure to attend (No-Show): If you do not arrive for a booked lesson and have not made contact after 15 minutes, it will be treated as a no-show, and the full lesson fee will be charged.
1.3 Repeat Cancellations
- Consistent commitment is key to driving progress. Repeated short-notice cancellations (even if the fee is paid) may result in the loss of your regular lesson slot or refusal of future bookings . We will always discuss this with you first.
2. Lesson Cancellation by ABZ Driving School
Your instructor will make every effort to honour all booked lessons, but sometimes cancellations are unavoidable.
- When we may cancel: In cases of instructor illness, mechanical breakdown of the tuition vehicle, or adverse weather conditions deemed unsafe for tuition, your lesson may be cancelled at short notice .
- Our Commitment: We will contact you as soon as possible using the details you have provided. The lesson will be rescheduled to a mutually convenient time, or if you have pre-paid, a full refund for that lesson will be issued. We are not liable for any indirect losses arising from such cancellations .
3. Pre-Paid and Block Bookings
3.1 Refunds for Unused Lessons
- Pre-paid block bookings are non-refundable except where we are unable to fulfil the remaining lessons or under the statutory 14-day cooling-off period defined in our full Terms and Conditions .
- In exceptional circumstances, such as a serious medical condition preventing you from driving, a pro-rata refund for genuinely unused lessons may be granted at the management’s discretion, upon receipt of a doctor’s note.
3.2 Expiry of Block Bookings
- All pre-paid lessons must be taken within 6 months from the date of the first lesson, or as otherwise agreed in writing. Unused lessons after this period are non-refundable .
4. Driving Test Cancellations
The rules around driving tests are now governed by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), which has introduced significant changes. As of March 31, 2026, you are responsible for managing your own test booking .
4.1 Your Responsibility for DVSA Bookings
- Under the new DVSA rules, learners must book and manage their own practical driving test directly on GOV.UK. Your instructor can no longer book, change, or swap appointments on your behalf .
- You can make a maximum of two changes to your test booking (e.g., date, time, or test centre). If you need to make more changes, you must cancel and rebook your test.
4.2 Test Fee Refunds from the DVSA
- To receive a full refund from the DVSA for your test fee, you must cancel giving at least 10 full working days’ notice. Sundays and public holidays do not count as working days .
4.3 Use of the School Vehicle for Your Test
- If you cancel a test at short notice (less than 10 working days), you will forfeit the test fee to the DVSA, and any “test day package” fee paid to ABZ Driving School for the use of the vehicle and the instructor’s time on that day is strictly non-refundable, as that time cannot be reallocated.
- We reserve the right to withdraw the use of the school vehicle for a test if, in the instructor’s professional judgment, you are not at the test-ready standard. You will be given clear notice and reasons for this decision, and we will help you reschedule.
5. Refund Process
