What we're Looking For
Becoming an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) is about mentoring the next generation. We look for individuals with a professional pedigree, excellent communication skills, and a genuine passion for road safety.
Minimum Entry
- Held license for 3+ years
- Max 6 penalty points
- Pass an Enhanced DBS check
- High level of patience

Your Roadmap to Qualification
Part 1: Theory & Hazard
Master the Highway Code and instructional theory. This includes 100 multiple-choice questions and a Hazard Perception test with 14 CGI clips. We provide the full 4-in-1 ADI training kit.
Part 2: Advanced Driving
A 1-hour practical exam testing your driving ability to an expert level. You’ll navigate urban and rural roads, demonstrating flawless maneuvers with no more than 6 minor faults.
Part 3: Instructional Ability
The final hurdle. You will be assessed on your ability to teach a real pupil. We focus on Client-Centered Learning (CCL), teaching you how to manage risk and plan effective lessons.
The Trainee License
At ABZ, we support the "Earn while you Learn" scheme. Once you've completed 40 hours of Part 3 training, we can help you apply for a Trainee (PDI) License. This allows you to teach real pupils and earn an income while you prepare.
